9th Biannual Men’s Basketball Reunion - Saturday, February 9, 2013

9th Biannual Men’s Basketball Reunion,
Saturday, February 9, 2013

.
Every two years, the Men’s Basketball team hosts an Alumni Reunion on the date of the final varsity men’s and women’s final home games. The MIT community – former players, fans, family and friends of MIT basketball - are invited to this event, which is co-sponsored by the MIT Club Boston.

These reunions are a full day of events back at MIT’s Rockwell Cage - including an alumni game for all former players, optional dinners, welcoming by the current team and coaches and more. The centerpieces are the two varsity games. The women’s varsity game starts at 1PM against Springfield College and the men follow versus Clark at 3PM. Both games will celebrate the annual Play4Kay (formerly the Pink Zone), a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association program designed to help spread awareness and raise money for breast cancer. At halftime of the men’s game, there will be a short celebration honoring a handful of alumni who have a very special, decades-long connection with MIT Basketball.

The full schedule and registration is now available at THIS LINK. You need only register if you are attending the lunch, post-game activities, and/or want an MIT Basketball T-shirt. All games are free.

It is worth noting that the influx of alumni friends of fans really helps our varsity teams on the floor. Back on Feb 15, 2003, the women’s team overcame a 23 point halftime deficit against a taller, very experienced team from Springfield. After tying the game at the close of regulation, the women surged to a 13 point overtime win! Please remember that Springfield College, where the sport of basketball was invented by James Naismith, is renowned for its fine athletes and physical education curriculum. And at the most recent Alumni Day in 2011, with hundreds of MIT alumni and fans in the stands, the men’s team surged to their largest regular season win, also against Springfield College with 73-43 victory.
